Indian Council Government Policies by Icsusdev Team - October 10, 2017June 12, 20180 The advancement of technology, economic, development, infrastructure along with the ever growing population has resulted in more expectation. The principles of sustainable events are the need of the hour. The laws of the different policy can satiate the needs of today without worrying about the requirements of tomorrow. The essential idea behind the concept of sustainable development is: The needs of today are the priority combined with the concept of limitations to satiate the need of present and future. The very first time the principles of sustainable development were introduced in the nineteen seventy-two. It was only after Nineteen eighty-seven a report on the doctrine was submitted. The report stated a link between the environment protection along with economic development. Sustainable development means maintaining a check between the environment and development. The reason is to save for the future generation. It also means keeping the quality of life for today and tomorrow. The enhancement of quality of life is necessary without creating much impact on the environment. Therefore sustainable climate aims to maintain both development and environment. India is an immensely growing economy. There has been colossal industrialisation very recently. This has an adverse impact on the environment. Witnessing the decreasing state of the environment, the Indian council and the supreme court of India have played a part In the acceptance of the principles of sustainable development. This idea of safeguarding the environment began by the famous judge also popularly called as the green judge. The green judge’s name is Justice Kuldip Singh. The concept was first introduced in the case of Vellore citizen welfare Vs Union of India. The reason of the case was the discharge of chemical waste into the river Palar of Tamil Nadu. The supreme court applying the principles of sustainable development directed the polluter to pay the price for the damage caused. The series of judgements that came after applied the principles of Sustainable development. The supreme court analysed in the Narmada Bachao Andolan case the nature of development up to which the environment is not disturbed. The supreme court also decided that the following of sustainable development is a must. The extent of sustainable development to be followed is varied according to every case. The requirement of preserving the environment should also ensure not to impact the economic development inversely. Maintaining the balance between both the environment and development is what best describes Sustainable Development. The Supreme court established special courts to decide and effectively dispose of the cases which contain environmental issues. Considering the human health and environment, the united nations in the year two thousand and ten established the National Green Tribute for efficient disposal of cases involving environmental and development issues. The powers of National Green Tribute are to hear all the cases that are concerned with the environment. The code of civil procedures does not confine the National green Tribute. The tribunal is bound only by the natural justice. While taking a judgment for the case, the tribunal should consider the principles of sustainable development. The National green tribunal should keep the protection of the environment as the guideline for sustainable development. There have been various instances where the National green tribunal has passed judgments in favour of industries as it valued the benefits of economic growth over environment concern. The United Nations laid down the seventeen principles of Sustainable Development known as the sustainable development goals. The seventeen goals were set with an aim to clear Poverty and hunger, Offering education, clean water and sanitisation, industry innovation and others. These goals can be achieved only when all the nations strive together forgetting their enmity. Climate change is one of the major issues today. The extreme infrastructural development has led to the influence of climatic conditions. An agreement between all the countries is required to solve the problem of emission and carbon dioxide. The developed countries should have a significant role in decreasing the carbon footprint. India being the agricultural country is dependent on mother nature for their survival. The effects of adverse climatic conditions would affect India the most. Therefore to check the balance between development and environment, It is the application of sustainable development which can create an impact to save the environment for future.
